Green Fees & Tee Times

The Monte Mayor golf course became an instant legend from the moment it opened in 1989. Spectacularly located and captivatingly beautiful, it inspires the utmost respect and admiration in golfers from around the world. Many of them are drawn back, time and again, in a determined effort to conquer this amazing course. Few succeed, but playing Monte Mayor is an experience no one will ever forget. It is widely acknowledged as one of Europe’s premier golfing experiences.

Created by the renowned course designer José Gancedo, this golf course is probably unlike any you have ever played before. Nestled in a natural amphitheatre created by the Serrania de Ronda Mountains, the greens have not been shaped by bulldozers, but by the wild Andalusian nature. With its exciting fairway that winds through dramatic gullies, ravines and streams,

Monte Mayor offers a superb challenge to even the most experienced golfers. Living in this beautiful community means it’s a challenge you can enjoy every day, only moments from your front door. The Monte Mayor Golf Club is situated in am idyllic valley oasis’s only minutes away from the coast, the famous port of Puerto Banus, and the cities of Marbella and Estepona.

The course features a challenging layout over mountainous terrain and was designed by José (Pepe) Gancedo, a man who has been given many aliases from ‘The Son of Nature’ to the ‘Picasso of Golf Course Designers’. Upon being presented with the challenge of designing the Golf Course, he is most famous for saying “why move earth when a golf hole should follow the natural contours?” and this has remained his philosophy throughout his whole life. The mountain of Monte Mayor overlooks not only the golf course but also a large stretch of the Costa del Sol. Strategically, for the invading Moors who built a fortress on the top in the tenth century, it has defended the area around Benahavis and became home to King Ahavis and his family.

Monte Mayor is now well established and open to the global golfing market for over 18 years. Spectacular, in every sense of the word, the layout takes the golfer along the east side of the valley crossing over ravines and streams, climbing the side of a natural marble cascade and rising on and up to the 9th hole where it crosses the north end of the valley and turns and starts to curve its way down the west side until the eighteenth. Tee off from an elevated position across the valley to the green on the far side of the river, this hole is often photographed as the signature hole but, such is the sheer variety of landscapes opening up from each hole, it is very difficult to point to any particular one of the eighteen holes as being more outstanding than the other.

During a round players are treated to the ultimate in peace and tranquility amongst captivating natural beauty that is unsurpassed throughout the continent and a visit is certainly unforgettable and begs to be repeated. It is impossible not to be impressed with the design and condition of the course even though many find it demanding in places.
Tee time intervals are set at every 15 minutes, buggies are always included and the Course Record of 66 (5 under par) is set by German Tour Professional Alex CEJKA.
