Harrison Hills Golf & Country Club

In 1923 J.W. Harrison commissioned William Langford to design a nine hole golf course to be located in Attica, Indiana. The idea was to establish the golf course and club as one of the best in the state. The golf course would benefit the community of Attica and the employees of Harrison Steel Castings Company, also started by Mr. Harrison. Mr. Harrison proposed providing the land and building the golf course, with membership paying a for the yearly maintenance. The membership started out with 100 people paying dues of $40.00 per year. Throughout the years Harrison Hills was operated as a breakeven operation. Every so often someone would bring up the idea of adding another nine holes. In 1991, the land was acquired which would enable the expansion to 18 holes. In 1993, Tim Liddy was hired to design the 9 hole addition. Tim was asked to design the additional holes, taking into consideration the architectural ideas of William Langford and the original holes. In 1995, work began on the expansion of Harrison Hills. Original holes 1 and 2 would remain in same position. Hole 3 would start off the new holes and continue through half of hole 13, which tied the courses together. Holes 14 through 18, are original holes 5 through 9. To help tie the courses together the original holes were renovated. The tee boxes were rebuilt, bunkers rebuilt to original size, concrete cart paths added and the fairways were converted to bent grass. The end product of Indiana’s finest new 18 hole public golf courses. Today’s course features four sets of tees, bent grass fairways, tees and greens. The generous landing areas guarded by deep fairway bunkers offer wonderful views and challenging shot making. Most of the greens are elevated and undulating, guarded by deep bunkers. Mature trees, tall fescue deep rough and water are the obstacles, which encourage you to keep the ball in the fairway. Enjoy your day of golf on a golf course nominated to Golf’s Digest’s America’s Best New Courses for 1997.
