Favourite” plays it’s entire length with the North Sea to your right and the St. Andrews skyline in the distance past the green. Usually played into a breeze the 17th is possibly the most difficult hole to par in all of Fife, the huge elusive green is protected short by a deep ravine, a wall and a bunker. Best par 3: 16th 192 yards Played slightly uphill and often into the breeze this par three features one of golf’s most interesting and well protected greens. A firm tee shot is required to avoid the sea very close on the right, several bunkers left, front and right, and an integral wall very close to the left and back of the putting surface. The location of the pin can mean a difference of several clubs, the right one is usually one more than the one used. Course Strategy: the best advice is to ask the Starter what tees you should play to enjoy Kittocks with your handicap. It’s a long course and the fairways are very generous. Although Kittocks overlooks the sea, it is not a links. It’s challenge is very links like by nature –seaside location, sea vistas, gorse, fescues, rye and native grasses, fast and firm fairways and greens, rocky outcrops, undulating ground, assortment of bunkers and traps, and wind (lots and lots of it). So swing easy, keep the ball close to the ground and enjoy the spectacular setting.
